AV Simplified Solutions is the audio/video or home systems integration division of Nelson-Jones Electric. Nelson-Jones Electric is the full service line voltage company or electrician that home owners and businesses in the Chattanooga area have learned to trust over the years, since 1985.
Nelson-Jones Electric and AV Simplified Solutions is a family owned and operated business, where clients and customers are treated like family. The experience of adding a home theater, media room, distributed audio/video system, or a control system can be daunting. David Jones the president of Nelson Jones Electric and AV Simplified Solutions promises to ease the anxiety and trepidation of such an important buying decision.
This Q&A session with David will help you understand AV Simplified Solutions, and the approach that David has to his business.
I started in the electrical business working with my father-in-law in 1984. I decided pretty quickly that I wanted to do this for a living, but not necessarily for my father-in-law. I was fortunate to have learned a lot about the business from him. I went to Chattanooga State and took some classes and received my license in 1985. I started out by myself with one helper in a van. If I recall, I was working for one or two contractors. I was very small and developed the self sufficient mindset that has carried me through to today. As business grew, I noticed that contractors were hiring other people to do security, alarms, and A/V work. Because we were already pulling wire in the houses, I became interested in adding this to my list of services. Just as I did with the electrical, I started taking classes on audio/video. We started installing small audio/video systems like simple surround sound. As my knowledge grew and demand grew, we began installing whole house audio distributions systems. We continued to grow and evolve adding other services like security systems. The demand for our non-line voltage services has grown so much that I started AV Simplified Solutions to meet that demand and take better care of my customers.
As I mentioned, the demand for my non-line voltage services such as home theater systems, security, control systems, etc., has grown so much. To better serve my customers, my only choice was to become a one-stop-shop. I feel like I establish trust with my customers and I want to serve them the best that I can. AV Simplified Solutions allows me to do that.
We are an Elan Home Systems dealer. This line of products gives us the ability to provide most any A/V solution that our customers want when it comes to audio/video switching and distribution. Both high end and entry level. Home Logic allows us to install incredible control systems for home theater, communications, lighting, and even your pool and irrigation system. One of the cool features of Home Logic is that it integrates with your iPhone. Imagine controlling your entire home with your iPhone. We also carry Sunfire, one of the best subwoofers on the market, Yamaha, Elco Lighting, HAI for lighting, security, and home automation. Our brands are growing as our services do.
We offer JVC projectors for large home theater installations. At the moment, JVC is one of the top projectors in the market and offers the best bang for the buck, not to mention its superior performance. For televisions and smaller home theater and media room installations we are offering NuVision LCD TVs. NuVision is an exclusive line for custom installers like AV Simplified Solutions. This TV costs a bit more than a traditional brand, but the service, reliability, and connectivity surpasses anything else on the market. These TVs integrate into an automation or control system better than any other TV on the market. Using one of these TVs can actually save the home owner money because you have to buy fewer gadgets to make it work the way you want it to. This all goes without saying that the picture and quality is superb.
Any home owner who wants to add automation, lighting, home theater, or audio/video to their home can benefit by calling AV Simplified Solutions. Builders and contractors can benefit too because using a single company for electrical and integration can save them and the homeowner a lot of money. The builder can call us for all their high voltage, low voltage, A/V, and automation in one shop without adding an extra burden to their project management. Beyond just pulling wire, we can build custom home theaters from scratch as we have a general contractor’s license in both Tennessee and Georgia. We can do both new homes and remodels.
I think the bottom line is that we have been in business for over 20 years. In that 20 years, we have managed to build a lot of trust with our customers. We respect that trust and intended on keeping it and growing it. That’s something you can’t buy, it’s only given away. Of course, there is the aspect that we combine both line voltage and low voltage in one shop that can save the homeowner and/or builder a lot of money.
We try to put ourselves in our customer’s shoes. We go the extra mile to make sure they are satisfied and everything works as planned. When something goes wrong, you can be sure that we will be there. As I’ve said before, we strive to build trust relationships with our customers. We’re going to take care of them.
There are so many systems in the marketplace; the average homeowner quickly becomes confused. They might have an idea of what they want but don’t know where to start. What we like to do is sit the homeowner down and hear what they want and what their expectations are. Then we design a system or systems around what they want and their budget without overselling. Our main goal is that the customer is completely satisfied. We will help the customer understand the possibilities, capabilities and generally resolve any confusion. We want to make it easy for them. We have a fully functioning show room with the latest and greatest products. We want to fit the customer’s needs: from the simplest, to the most elaborate systems. Basically, my advice is to come in and talk to us, look around our showroom, play with the controls, kick the tires. That’s a good place to start.
We are very excited about our new showroom. Basically, we rented an empty warehouse and we put a house inside it. Each room is a different setting and demonstrates different technology or different options. Homeowners can put their hands on this technology and better decide how they want to integrate it into their home and lifestyle.
We have a custom home theater built with a proscenium, a 10 foot screen, theater seating, incredible Sunfire speakers, sound panels, and everything else a theater needs. You really have to see it to believe it. We have a living room set up as a media room with a 5.1 surround sound system. We have different zoned areas so that we can demonstrate a distributed audio/video system. Almost anything that you images, we are trying to bring that experience in person and hands on in our showroom.
Personally, I like the custom home theater. My family takes advantage of it to watch movies, listen to music, watch concerts, and sporting events. There is really nothing quite like it. I love spending time with my family; the home theater gives me another opportunity in grand fashion.
Let’s see. I was born in San Diego, California. I lived there until I was about 6 years old. My family moved to Birmingham, Alabama where I was raised and went to school. After school, I went to work for my father putting on cedar roofing. He wanted me to take over the business. I knew right away that I didn’t want to do that for a living. My uncle had a church in Chattanooga that we visited frequently and that’s where I met my wife and ultimately came into this business. We have two children and three grandchildren. My wife and I really love going on the occasional cruise, especially to St Martin or St. Thomas. It’s laid back and has gorgeous scenery that helps you forget your troubles.
We live by the golden rule: Do unto others…and it works for us.
